Mara River Female Hippo

Hippos graze short green grass using their lips to grasp and rip with a sideways movement of the head. The rear molars 'chew' the grass.... all those other teeth are for offense and defense.

Silvery-Cheeked Hornbill, Mt. Kenya

A B&W portrait of the Silvery-Cheecked Hornbill. There are three theoretical reasons for possessing such a big 'casque': 1- It's sexy & attracts mates, 2- it assists in cooling the otherwise well insulated bird, and 3- it is a sound amplifier (which could also be sexy). Maybe all 3?

Wildebeest Migration 2108

The migration was late but massive last year! Early long grass is maturing in the Mara already this year after heavy unseasonal rains in February.
