Cheetah- Amboseli Game Reserve, Knya

This was one of a pair of Cheetah seen in Amboseli near the swamps. They had not been spotted for several weeks prior to this- and probably followed plains game back to the region of the swamps as grazing deteriorates with the onset of the dry season.

Bull Elephant- Masai Mara Kenya

A rather imposing bull from the Mara.

Now this is interesting....  I've been displaying some of my photos in a peer-judged site called 500px. It helps me to see how a photo is 'ranked' by thousands of fellow photographers including pros.  This site has started the option of selling photos and canvases if permitted by the members. A request has come through to purchase my 'Bronze Ellie', so I uploaded the larger file and allowed it to be available. Go to:

https://500px.com/photo/25034565/canvas

Not sure if they ship world-wide or not. It's a Canadian outfit based in Toronto. If anyone has a favourite shot of mine & would like a canvas- just ask & I'll enable it on the site.

African Wild Dog- Lycaon pictus

The Wild Dog has the most powerful bite of any African carnivorous mammal- exceeded globally only by the Tasmanian Devil. This female was photographed in the Mara earlier this month (Feb '13).

Lion Food Fest- Masai Mara

A meal is a swamp is as good as anywhere else to these Mara lion cubs, though the lionesses seem to be more adverse to diving right in on this freshly killed waterbuck.

Defeated and Intimidated

One of the most important lessons a cheetah learns in life is to never give up trying. The next gnu might be lame, sick and hornless..... you never know!

Mara River Crocodiles- Kenya

The Mara River could not support the existing numbers of huge crocodiles without the annual Wildebeest migration. These cold-blooded reptiles can go for several months without any food whatsoever after gorging on Gnu.

For those concerned about developments on the Laikipia Plateau, there's an update and petition HERE.
