Hyena Feeding Frenzy, Masai Mara Kenya
From the Mara last weekend. A pack of some 15 hyena chased the remaining
few sub-adult lions from a pride of 9 off a Topi kill after much
posturing and vocalisation. The returns were rather meagre...

Crowned Crane and Chick, Amboseli Kenya
A Grey Crowned Crane with young chicks in Amboseli. The two parents were busy feeding the chicks grasshoppers, which were plentiful in the swampy grass.

Male Lion, Masai Mara Kenya
A mature full-maned lion from the Mara rests in shade. I've been informed on several occasions that this particular fragrant tree/bush repels flies & is hence favoured shade for predators.

Clash of Titans, Amboseli Kenya
Combative giants in Amboseli. This photo taken with a Nikon 2x
teleconverter on a Nikon 600mm lens with Nikon D800 camera- a real
paparazzi super- telephoto setup.

Big Foot, Amboseli Kenya
From Amboseli with Michael North earlier this month. I think my
photographic 'Mission Statement' should be something like 'To bring the
detail of wildlife and their environment into intimate focus.' Or

Goliath Heron On Nest, Lake Baringo
These five-foot tall Herons roost in trees overnight. We had the dubious honour of hosting one above our tent at Island Camp, Lake Baringo last weekend, and it was a particularly noisy bird- providing the best imitation of a hippo I've ever heard: hreeeeeee, hrump! hrump! hrump! hrump! A most unusual bird call, and I strongly suspect it actually WAS imitating a hippo- there's plenty in the lake.

Tawny Eagle, Masai Mara Kenya
A Tawny Eagle from the Mara. You can tell it's just eaten more than it's
fill as the throat crop (proventriculus) is engorged. This extra fuel
tank allows longer periods between meals or food for young back at the
nest.

Fish Eagles on Nest, Lake Baringo Kenya
A nesting pair of Fish Eagles from Lake Baringo. Looks like a rather prickly nest in an Acacia tree.
