Masai Mara Hippo
The dominant male in a group of some 45 hippo in the Mara River. An old chap, and a fighter, as revealed by the scars.
Great shot! We spent 13 days camping at Lake Naivasha and hippos grazed around our tents at night--within inches of our heads on the other side of the tent wall! One morning after dawn a few were still in our camp and one charged me. I quickly unzipped our tent and ducked in and zipped it back up, and that hippo just ran right on by. Out of sight, out of mind. Thank God!
