Silver Backed Jackal, Masai Mara Kenya

Silver-Backed Jackal. Commonly seen in pairs, these small canids are considered to be an ancient species & little changed since the Pleistocene era which ended some 12,000 year ago. Why change the design if it works??

Learning to Graze, Masai Mara Kenya

Grasp, pull, kick. It takes a bit of practice, but this is how elephants graze. The 'kick' uses the toenails to scuff at the base of the grass to loosen it from the earth and dislodge soil from roots. Excess soil is shaken off with a flick of the trunk. This little fellow is aiming a bit high....
