Young Lions, Masai Mara Kenya
All eyes. The young ones are fascinated by a plane coming into land in the Mara. Mom's seen it all before....

Yellow-Billed Stork with Catfish, Masai Mara Kenya
After struggling for 10 minutes trying to figure out how to swallow it
whole, this Stork had to let let the catfish go. Just too big!

Mature Male Lion, Masai Mara Kenya
One of the more mature alpha males in the Mara Triangle. His scars
provide evidence a violent life- and dozens of offspring no doubt.

Hammerkop, Mara River, Kenya.
A Hammerkop (Afrikaans for 'hammer head' I think). This bird nests in
waterside trees, returning annually and adding sticks etc annually. Some
nests can attain several tons in weight.

Mara River Croc & Wildebeest
Grass in the foreground fogs the photo a bit, but what a monster
croc! He snapped half-heartedly at one gnu but didn't make a kill this
time. Plenty of carcasses in the river in any case, so why even bother?

Young Cheetah, Masai Mara Kenya
The female Cheetah with four young that we've been following over the past year in the Southern Triangle is still with all four young. Here is one of them in the middle of a gnu breakfast.

Banded Mongoose, Masai Mara Kenya
The Banded Mongoose is a social creature, living in groups from 7 to 40 individuals. They inhabit termite mounds and prefer eating crunchy things.... like beetles and millipedes. Yum.
