Sea of Grass- Masai Mara, Kenya

After a good rainy season the Mara is a sea of grass. If this area wasn't protected it would be one of the most productive wheat farming land in Africa.

Beautiful Sunbird- Baringo Kenya

This is the Beautiful Sunbird'- Nectarinia pulchella. Not very common in my records, this was from Island Camp on Lake Baringo. There are some 60 species of sunbirds in East Africa but only one is officially called 'Beautiful'!

Gikururu Falls- Aberdare Mountains, Kenya

The Gikururu river has it's source at over 12,000 ft (4000m) in the moorlands of the Aberdares range in central Kenya. It's clear (though slightly peat-stained) cold water supports a thriving Brown Trout population which was first introduced in the 1890's from Europe via South Africa.

A New Gnu. Amboseli Kenya

The annual crop of baby wildebeest in Amboseli are born all within the same week Late February to early March. This one is only minutes old & already able to run with it's exhausted mother if necessary.

This full grown male Cape Buffalo from Masai Mara must be carrying a fair weight of dried mud. He also appears to have the disease Brucellosis- as evidenced by the swollen knee.

The main peak of Kilimanjaro is Kibo- the smaller peak is called Mawenzi- meaning 'moon' in Swahili. An appropriate name.

One of the new crop of some 200 babies born over the past couple months in Amboseli. Elephant have been waiting for good rains during a prolonged 3 year dry spell during which reproductive activity was very low.
